What it takes to be a tutor for the Literacy Council of the Palouse

Time Commitment

Many people feel that they don't have enough time in their daily schedules to volunteer.

  • If you become a tutor for the LCP, you will be able to establish your own schedule with your adult learner.
  • Tutors and adult learners typically meet for 1 hour a week.
  • We ask for at least a 6 month commitment to tutoring, although some learning goals are met sooner/later than 6 months.

Tutoring Fields

  • ESL (English as a Second Language)
  • GED prep
  • ABE (Adult Basic Education)
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Career Skills
  • Other

Experience

LCP tutors recieve as much, or as little, training and guidance to become a tutor as they and their adult learners need.  Training can be on-going as the scope of the learning goals changes.
